Winter Break at the BFK
To celebrate no school over winter break, the Building for Kids will feature a new theme each day from December 26 – 31! We will also be expanding our regular hours to include Monday, December 29. Plan your visit to the BFK and check out our exciting line-up of themes:
Friday, December 26: Olympic Trials at the BFK
Enjoy friendly competitions throughout the day including a long jump, ring toss, tunnel race, cone race, paper airplane contest, and more! Plus, engage in create activities in The Studio, like making your own Olympic medals and team flag/sashes.
Saturday, December 27: Renaissance Faire Day
The BFK is transforming into a family-friendly medieval village! Join us for am immersive Renaissance Faire experience, in partnership with the SCA Barony of Windhaven. This day will be packed with exciting activities and thrilling quests for the whole family, including face painting, leather working, weaving, metal smithing, jewelry and crown making, and much more.
Sunday, December 28: Clay Day
Try out the pottery wheel in The Studio! Plus, create a nature pinch pot with press flowers or a unique coil pot. In The Lab, learn about polymer clay vs. air-dry clay.
Monday, December 29: Under the Sea Kid’s Dance Party
Our Under the Sea Kid’s Dance Party theme is designed to engage children of all ages with music, movement, creativity, and sensory play in a safe and inclusive environment. Enjoy face paint, temporary tattoos, glow markers, bracelet making, bubble machines, and music throughout the day!
Tuesday, December 30: Green Day
Come explore eco-friendly activities in The Lab and The Studio! Plus, try various green foods in Food to Grow!
Wednesday, December 31: BFK New Year
Come welcome 2026 at the BFK during our Annual BFK New Year celebration! Create your own musical instruments and noisemakers in The Studio, join lively parades throughout the museum, and get ready for confetti-filled countdowns and ball drops!
All of these themed days are free with the paid price of general admission or a BFK membership.
