Dean and Pam Gruner

Dean and Pam Gruner believe that investing in early childhood opportunities is essential to helping kids grow into happy, thriving adults and building a stronger future for the community. After bringing their own grandchildren to the Building for Kids and watching their eyes light up as they explored the exhibits, they saw firsthand how play-based learning and a sense of community can give kids and families the best possible start. “Kids have pretty structured lives these days. Here, they just get to play and be kids,” Pam said.

Because of their belief in the power of play, Dean and Pam joined the Dr. John and Sally Mielke Bold Hearts Legacy Circle, having made a planned legacy gift that will support play-based learning at the Building for Kids for generations to come. They see their gift as a way to contribute to something meaningful and leave a lasting impact on the community beyond their lifetime.

Their decision to join the Bold Hearts Legacy Circle also stems from a deep belief that every child deserves access to early childhood opportunities, a mission at the heart of the Building for Kids. “We really support universal access. We like to think all kids deserve a chance, and not just those who are more socioeconomically blessed,” Dean explained. Their planned legacy gift will support the Building for Kids’ Access for All Initiative, and they plan to support the initiative through ongoing contributions in the meantime. Through these contributions, their vision is that the Building for Kids will continue to imagine, create, and boldly pursue new initiatives that help shape a better future for all kids and families.
