Volunteering at the BFK

We offer a variety of volunteer opportunities for adults (ages 18+), youth (ages 10 – 17) or those seeking to volunteer as a family. Children under the age of 10 must volunteer with a caregiver. Here are some examples of ways you can support the Building for Kids through volunteering:

  • Assistant in The Lab and/or The Studio: Use your art or science skills to help facilitate activities and maintain these spaces!
  • After School Explorer Camp: Help support students in After-School Explorer Camp!
  • Summer Explorer Camp: Assist us in running our Summer Explorer Camps!
  • Operations/Cleaning: Help us with daily operations and keeping our museum clean for our visitors!

Use the following links to get started and we will follow up with you about any current opportunities.

Other Ways to Support

Host a donation drive: We accept in-kind donation of art supplies and lab equipment to use in our activity spaces! You might consider hosting a donation drive and collecting supplies to donate to our Lab or Studio.

Join our Youth Advisory Group: The Building for Kids’ Youth Advisory Group is a committee that gives 5th – 12th graders a chance to help our museum grow! Led by Museum Educator Jake, the group meets biweekly throughout the school year to discuss ideas and work on implementing a project for the Building for Kids. Our next Youth Advisory Group will start at the beginning of the 2026-27 school year. Stay tuned for more details on how to join!

Join our Youth Educators in STEM (YES) Program: We’re looking for high school students interested in helping young kids develop confidence in STEM! Throughout the program, you will help facilitate activities in The Lab (our STEM programming space) while acting as mentors to younger children, who are early on in their STEM skills acquisition journey. Learn more about Youth Educators in STEM here.
