Check out the volunteer opportunities offered by Heckrodt Wetland Reserve, an organization whose mission is to enhance, restore, and preserve the Reserve and educate all people on the importance of conserving our natural resources.
Volunteering at Heckrodt Wetland Reserve
Heckrodt Wetland Reserve has a variety of volunteer opportunities for adults, kids, and families! Volunteer help is needed for:
- Teacher Naturalist: Assist in teaching school field trips and scout groups
- Nature Center Sitter: Be a helpful presence in the nature center when staff cannot be there
- Event Volunteer: Set-up, admission, parking, and clean up at public events
- Citizen Science Monitoring Projects: Water quality testing, etc.
- Aquarium Care & Cleaning
- Site Maintenance: Special projects
- Invasive Species Control
- Weeding & Gardening
Kids must be at least 10 years old to volunteer and at least 14 years old to volunteer alone. Kids ages 10 – 13 must volunteer with an adult.

Thrivent offers additional resources to make your volunteer experience easier! If you’re a Thrivent Member, you’re eligible to organize a Thrivent Action Team to get started on a community project of your choice. Thrivent will provide seed money and a customizable Action Team kit, plus digital tools to promote your project, invite volunteers, and track participation.
