After-School Explorer Camps

After-School Explorer Camps are drop-off programs designed to provide learning opportunities beyond the classroom. Explorer Camps encourage hands-on learning, problem solving, and social/emotional development through the exploration of art, science, and mindfulness.  

Who can attend Explorer Camps?  

Explorer Camps are open to children currently in Kindergarten – 4th grade. 

When are Explorer Camps?  

After-School Explorer Camps are Tuesdays or Thursdays from 3pm – 6pm. Each session runs for six weeks.

  • Typical Camp Schedule

    • 3 – 4pm: Drop Off & Supervised Play in the Museum
    • 4 – 5pm: Camp Programming
    • 5 – 6pm: Pick-up & Supervised Play in the Museum

What do Explorer Camps cost?  

  • Members: $80 per 6-week session
  • Non-Members: $130 per 6-week session
  • Sibling Discount: The first child is full price and all additional siblings are 15% off. 

The Building for Kids aims to make Explorer Camps accessible to all families. Please contact us to find out if scholarship funds may be available to you.

Sessions Available for Registration

STEMpowered Explorers: September 6 – October 13 (Tuesdays or Thursdays)

  • Join us for 6 weeks of hands-on activities that will encourage your child to explore STEM concepts and collaborate with peers.

Art Essentials: October 25 – December 8, excluding Thanksgiving week (Tuesdays or Thursdays)

  • Join us for 6 weeks of exploration in the foundations of art. Campers will put their foundational knowledge to the test by creating pieces with different mediums.
    • Week 1: Foundations (color; color mixing with paint)
    • Week 2: Foundations (shape & line; shape monsters)
    • Week 3: Foundations (texture; explore with found objects)
    • Week 4: Materials (color project mural)
    • Week 5: Materials (shape project clay)
    • Week 6: Materials (texture project soft sculpture)

Early Entrepreneurs: January 3 – February 9 (Tuesdays or Thursdays)

  • Campers will learn from and collaborate with local entrepreneurs to help bring their innovative ideas to life.
    • Week 1: What? – Read “What Do You Do with an Idea?”; define ideas
    • Week 2: Why? – Why does your idea matter? Develop case for support and mission statement
    • Week 3: How? – How will you make your idea a reality? Build a business model and marketing/communication plan
    • Week 4: Put it all together – Prepare a presentaion that will be presented to a panel of local entrepreneurs and community leaders
    • Week 5: Panel (families invited)
    • Week 6: Panel (families invited)

STEMpowered Explorers: February 21 – March 30 (Tuesdays or Thursdays)
