After-School Explorer Camps provide hands-on, play-based educational experiences for learners in Kindergarten through 4th grade. These experiences are designed to enhance in-school academic performance and to promote the development of necessary skills among learners.
Explorer Camp experiences are:
- Social: Learners engage with other learners as they build connections and relationships through their shared experiences, that lead to the development of communication and collaboration skills.
- Learner-Directed: Learners make the plan for their time at the museum. Every camp offers a STEM-based learning activity and an art-based learning activity for learners to choose from – or to do both! Making space for learners to lead and make decisions develops confidence and agency, and leads to deeper engagement in the experience.
- Play-Based: All activities are playful by design! During Explorer Camps, learners will engage in guided STEM and art activities, as well as open-play in the museum’s exhibits. Children who have access to playful learning experiences – both free and guided – are more likely to develop skills like self-control, self-confidence, and problem-solving.
