Membership and Admission

One day admission is $6.50 per person (children under the age of one are free).  We have a special afternoon admission of $4.50/person Tuesday through Friday 4:00-5:00pm.  Field trip rates are $3.00 per child (see our educational section for field trip guidelines and restrictions).

Most activites are free to members, see below for pricing.

Preferred Family

The Building for Kids is a member of 2 national museum organizations: The Association of Children’s Museums (ACM) and the Association of Science-Technology Centers Incorporated (ASTC). ACM includes more than 150 children's museums all over the U.S.  ASTC member museums include more than 300 science museums.  ASTC requires that you must live at least 90 miles from the museum you visit.  Just one family visit to a science center museum will justify the Preferred Membership fee.

Did you know that when you join The Building for Kids at the $125 Preferred Family level, it entitles you to FREE ADMISSION to hundreds of children’s museums and science centers throughout the U.S. and Canada.  Through our participation and membership in the Association of Children’s Museums and ASTC, not only can you visit our Museums as often as you like at no charge, but you can also make the most of your trips throughout the country by visiting museums such as Betty Brinn Children’s Museum in Milwaukee and The Madison Children’s Museum or Kid City in Tampa, Florida–at no charge through the Preferred Membership Program.

Join today and you’ll receive a list of museum participants and your special membership card. It’s a great way to support The Building for Kids, stretch your dollars, and enjoy new museum experiences with your children.

Volunteers Needed!

The Building for Kids is in need of teen and adult  volunteers available during the daytimeTuesday-Sunday. Volunteers are needed for general maintenance like vacuuming, changing light bulbs, cleaning rest rooms or assisting children with art projects and assembling field trip class materials.  If you would like to volunteer at the museum, please download and submit our application found here.
